About the event

How-to Vermicompost: Learn to harness the power of worms for your farm or garden.

We will begin with a tour of Ver de Terre Compost’s commercial vermicomposting operation and explore the process from organic waste to worm castings. This will be an opportunity to get your hands dirty and begin to hone your vermicomposting instincts.

Next, we will provide an informal presentation on all of the things to consider when designing a vermicomposting system. Your own vermicomposting system should reflect your production needs, time and budgetary constraints, and available infrastructure. In the presentation, we’ll cover everything including worm food, bin management and troubleshooting, worm breeds, and various vermicomposting systems from under-the-sink to large scale production systems.

We’ll finish up the workshop with an opportunity to build your own bin vermicomposting system. The “home bin” assembly will be accompanied by an opportunity to ask Brian any pressing vermicomposting questions you might have regardless of your prior experience level. There is a materials fee of $35, payable at the workshop, for those that want to build a home bin vermicomposting system.

This event will be in-person and capped at 25 attendees. Current and aspiring producers are encouraged to attend.

Note: Scholarships are offered for this event. We recognize that money may be a limiting factor to whether people can attend these workshops or not; we hope that a scholarship can help to alleviate any financial barriers you may be experiencing in attending our educational events.
